Doctor Otto Octavius, better known as Doctor Octopus, is a brilliant but megalomaniacal scientist and one of Spider-Man's most iconic adversaries.
Octavius was a nuclear physicist deeply engrossed in his research, particularly in the field of radiation. To safely manipulate hazardous materials, he designed a set of highly advanced, controllable mechanical arms attached to a harness.
An accidental radiation leak during an experiment fused the arms to his body and warped his mind. The arms, now controlled by his thoughts, amplified his intellect and ambition, while simultaneously driving him insane.
Driven to villainy, Octavius adopted the moniker "Doctor Octopus" and embarked on a life of crime, utilizing his intellect and powerful appendages for theft and world domination schemes. He has been a recurring threat to Spider-Man and New York City.
Beyond his solo villainy, Doctor Octopus has been involved in various supervillain teams, most notably as a founding member of the Sinister Six, a group dedicated to Spider-Man's destruction.
